rivanthomexa - Banking Education

Our Financial Education Journey

Building Canada's most trusted banking education platform through seven years of dedicated innovation and community focus

Where It All Began

Back in early 2018, three financial professionals from Montreal noticed something troubling. Despite working at major Canadian banks, they kept meeting customers who felt completely lost when it came to basic banking concepts. People were making costly mistakes simply because nobody had taken the time to explain how modern banking actually works. That's when Emilia Thornberry, Marcus Velazquez, and Indira Beaumont decided to change things.

2018-2020

Foundation & First Steps

We started rivanthomexa in Emilia's basement apartment, literally. Our first course was about understanding credit scores, and we had exactly 23 students. But those 23 people gave us feedback that shaped everything we'd build next.

  • Launched with basic credit education curriculum
  • Built partnerships with 5 local credit unions
  • Served 240 students in our first two years

Growth & Recognition

The pandemic actually helped us in an unexpected way. When everyone moved online, we were already there. Our digital-first approach meant we could help people across Canada, not just Montreal. We expanded our team and added comprehensive mortgage and investment education.

  • Expanded to serve all 10 provinces
  • Developed mortgage qualification preparation courses
  • Reached 1,800+ students annually

Innovation & Impact

This year marked a turning point. We launched our mobile learning platform and introduced specialized courses for newcomers to Canada. Our approach focuses on real-world scenarios rather than dry theory, which seems to resonate with people navigating Canada's financial landscape.

  • Mobile platform serving 2,400+ active learners
  • Newcomer-focused curriculum in 3 languages
  • Partnership with 12 major Canadian financial institutions

Educational Philosophy

We believe financial education should be practical, not academic. Every concept we teach connects directly to real situations our students face - from getting their first credit card to buying a home.

Community Impact

What started as helping individuals understand banking has grown into something bigger. We're working with community organizations, settlement agencies, and even some high schools to build financial literacy from the ground up.

Looking Ahead to 2026

We're not trying to reinvent banking education - we're trying to make it actually useful. Our goal for next year is launching specialized courses for small business banking and introducing peer mentorship programs. Because sometimes the best teacher is someone who just figured it out themselves.
